Apple to Make Design Changes for macOS 27

Apple is reportedly making “slight redesign” changes for macOS 27 to address user issues with macOS Tahoe. The upcoming software update is also claimed to automatically group tabs in Safari.

In the latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman states Apple is determined to address criticisms around macOS Tahoe and the Liquid Glass interface. “Apple aims to address the shadows and transparency quirks,” Gurman says.

If indeed correct, macOS 27 should be more readable for users than the current iteration of macOS’ use of Liquid Glass.

Gurman also claims that Apple is testing a new AI-powered Safari feature. Once implemented, Safari is claimed to automatically organize browser tabs into groups. This would effectively help user organize their tabs, especially when you have a plethora of tabs open at once.

“I’m told that in test versions of iOS 27, the center-top button that users can tap to move between their tab groups has a new option called ‘Organize Tabs,'” Gurman says. “You can choose whether you want the grouping to occur automatically or not.”

Apple is likely to unveil macOS 27 and the improvements it will introduce during the WWDC 2026 keynote. The company is due to host the developer-focused conference from June 8 to June 12, 2026.

As Apple histroically conducts developer beta programs of new software, macOS 27 will likely release as a closed beta immediately after the WWDC keynote. Public beta access will likely follow in July. Then, macOS is most likely to recieve a full release in September alongside iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.
