Xbox Game Pass and Discord Nitro Now Come With Each Other’s Perks
Xbox and Discord are expanding their partnership with a new set of cross-platform benefits for members of both services. The update, which begins rolling out today, integrates subscription features to make it easier for players to access games and social tools.
Discord Nitro ($13.99 CAD/month) members now have access to a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass in supported regions. Along with the subscription access, Discord has added a functional Play button to its interface. When a user sees a friend playing a title via their Discord activity or a live stream, they can select the button to launch that game directly through Xbox Game Pass.
Later this month, the collab will offer perks in the other direction for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Those with an active subscription will get Discord Nitro benefits, including 250 Discord Orbs (essentially digital currency for use in Discord) every month. Subscribers will also receive a 1.2x multiplier on Orbs earned through completing Quests and will have discounts in the Discord Shop automatically applied to their accounts.
The two companies have been building this out for a while. They previously brought Discord voice chat to Xbox consoles and added the ability to stream directly from a console to a Discord server. This latest update is less about new features and more about tying the two ecosystems together at the subscription level.
