Telus Confirms Service Restored After Calling Outage in Ontario

Telus customers across Ontario and parts of Eastern Canada experienced wireless calling problems on Thursday, with some reporting they couldn’t make outgoing calls or reach customer support.

The outage prompted warnings from emergency services in Windsor, where police said Telus customers might have trouble reaching their non-emergency line. Windsor Fire and Rescue Services issued a similar notice but confirmed its 911 line remained operational.

Telus’ outage status page also listed wireless disruptions around Windsor, including Maidstone and Tecumseh, with some entries indicating possible impacts to 911 services.

Customers on X reported problems in Toronto, Scarborough, Ajax, Stouffville, Peterborough and Durham Region. Some said calls to numbers outside the Telus network weren’t connecting, while others reported trouble using Wi-Fi calling.

Telus Support acknowledged the problems throughout the morning, telling customers its engineers were working on a fix but initially providing no estimated restoration time.

However, Telus later confirmed to iPhone in Canada that service had been restored.

“A small number of calls in Eastern Canada may have experienced interruptions this morning. All services have been restored, and calls to emergency 911 services remained fully operational,” a Telus spokesperson told us Thursday afternoon.

“Customers in Western Canada were not affected.”

The Telus online outage map includes localized problems that may affect only a small number of customers, rather than noting a widespread outage.

The disruption follows several other Telus network problems this year, including an August outage in northern B.C. caused by cable theft and a May incident that disrupted 911 and cellular service.

Telus has not disclosed what caused Thursday’s calling problems.
