Rogers and Fido Hit Customers With Another Wave of $5 Monthly Price Hikes

Last month, we told you about how Rogers had started notifying customers of $5 price increase, with some customers being hit having only been with the company for three months.

It wasn’t just Rogers customers as Fido customers similarly complained about a price increase, at the rate of $4 extra per month.

Fast forward to July, and now it seems Rogers and Fido price increases aren’t slowing down at all, as a new wave of price increase notifications on billing statements has gone out over the weekend. That’s according to users on Reddit venting about the $5 Rogers and $4 Fido price hikes showing up their bills.

Here’s the message from Rogers if you haven’t seen it yet:

“We continuously invest to bring you Canada’s most reliable 5G+ network and the best mobile experience in Canada.”We continuously invest to bring you Canada’s most reliable 5G+ network and the best mobile experience in Canada. To help support these investments, the monthly fee (Monthly Charge) for your wireless price plan will increase by $5 (plus taxes), starting with your next bill, on or after July 15, 2026. This will appear as an additional line item under Monthly Charges on your monthly bill called Wireless Plan Rate Adjustment. The rest of your wireless services remain the same. If you have any questions or no longer wish to subscribe to your wireless service, please reach out to us as indicated in the Contact Us section of this bill.”

So again, Rogers says the price increase is to help its 5G network. It also says if you don’t want to be a customer anymore, reach out to them to cancel.

If you were a bring your own device customer or new customer of 3 to 4 months, it’s now time to check your billing statement to see if you got hit with these price increases. Let us know in the comments if you got this message of a price hike.

Recently, the CRTC made it illegal for telecoms to charge an $80 connection fee and other junk fees. Carrier obliged but now they are going to recoup any losses by just adding “wireless plan rate adjustments” to bills (besides device fees and more). Let’s see if the CRTC will pick a fight about this one as well.

The only way to avoid them is to go with a prepaid brand or switch to Freedom Mobile and its price guarantee.
