Rogers and Fido Lower Shipping Fees Following CRTC Scrutiny

Rogers and Fido have made changes to their websites today to lower the cost of shipping a new smartphone to your front door.

Previously priced at $25, the websites now state this cost is $9, and is also waived if you choose to have phones shipped to stores for in-store pick up. That’s a reduction of $16 or 64% off.

Now, this change doesn’t come out of the blue. The CRTC has been going after Big 3 telecoms over junk fees, and in its latest letter addressed to Rogers, the Commission questioned the telecom’s $40 device fee and $25 shipping fee.

It wasn’t just Rogers that the CRTC has been targeting lately. Both Telus and Bell also received stern letters warning about new device and SIM card fees.

If you buy an iPhone from Apple, shipping to your door is free. Rogers used to offer free shipping, but two years ago it started charging $25 for shipping that started with the iPhone 16. Both Telus and Bell still offer free shipping for devices (but Telus charges $25 for Apple Watch).
