Telus Confirms Security Breach Affecting Some Customer Accounts

Telus says it recently detected unauthorized access involving a small number of consumer telecom accounts.

In a statement sent to iPhone in Canada on Monday, the carrier said the incident involved only limited information and that the access has since been blocked.

“At Telus, we take our commitment to safeguard customer privacy very seriously. We recently identified and blocked unauthorized access to limited information contained in a small number of telecom consumer accounts,” said a Telus spokesperson to iPhone in Canada.

Telus says it has notified affected customers and is providing complimentary identity protection. The company has also contacted law enforcement and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

The Vancouver-based telecom did not say how many customers were affected, what specific information was accessed or when the unauthorized access took place.

Telus said customers who receive a notification and are concerned about whether it is legitimate can contact Telus directly to verify it.

Have you received any notifications from Telus about a security breach on your account?

It’s fun watching the carriers offshore jobs. It’s not just customer service going offshore, important jobs are being sent away! People who monitor the cellular network are offshored! Offshoring isn’t just about saving money, but also shifting responsibility and optics when things like this happen! Morocco is getting out of control with the fraud. Fun fact the large carriers also OWN the offshored contact centers.

If you’re with TELUS and you start getting scam calls, with insanely accurate information, don’t be surprised that the scammers are probably also working for the large carriers, banks and more!
