Googlebook Buyer’s Guide: All 5 Gemini AI Laptops, Specs and Canadian Prices

Google’s Googlebook launch is not one laptop but five, built with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, and the hardware is meant to read as a flagship tier above Chromebooks.

The machines are designed as companions to an Android phone, with Continue on, the Files app and Handoff letting files, apps and ongoing tasks flow across devices. Full details on the launch and Canadian pre-orders are in our Googlebook launch story, but the hardware itself deserves a closer look.

Every model is built from premium materials like aluminum, magnesium alloy and carbon fibre, keeping the machines light and thin. The lineup spans ultra-compact 13-inch travel designs, versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and 15.3-inch immersive displays, all of them touchscreens reaching up to 2.8K OLED resolution.

Google says its partners spent months tuning the parts people touch most, including backlit keyboards with custom layouts, large haptic glass trackpads with native gesture support, up to six speakers with Dolby Atmos, and studio-quality microphones that cancel background noise.

Acer Googlebook 14: From $1,299 CAD

Acer’s Googlebook 14 is the only convertible of the five, shifting from laptop to tablet, and it is also the cheapest way into the lineup.

Lenovo’s Googlebook 15 is the workhorse, with the largest display of the five and Dolby Atmos audio.

The Glowbar returns

The Glowbar is a light strip on the laptop’s exterior that Google is bringing back. It plays an animation at startup, sweeps to show the battery level and reacts with playful motion when you talk to Gemini, and Google is opening it to developers so they can design custom animations of their own. It first debuted in 2013, on the original Chromebook Pixel as a coloured light strip on the lid. It came back on the 2015 Chromebook Pixel too, but skipped the 2017 Pixelbook.

AI hardware and software

Under the hood, launch models run Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Snapdragon X Elite, with MediaTek also on board as a chip partner (coming soon, Google told us), and dedicated NPUs deliver 40-plus TOPS of on-device AI acceleration without loud fans spinning up. Memory is a standard 16GB across the lineup, reaching 32GB on some models, with 256GB to 512GB or more of SSD storage and battery life of 14 hours or more.

Gemini Intelligence features include Create My Widget [Beta], a natural-language prompt-to-widget engine for custom desktop command centres, and Native Antigravity Access, Google’s agentic workflow and development environment.

For software, Google points to broad day-one availability across the Google Play Store, optimized web apps (PWAs) and Linux containers, with high-priority productivity gaps continuously closing.

The hardware arrives as on-device AI raises the bar for laptops, while it is also the latest step in Google’s wider AI push.

Pre-orders start September 21 through Canadian retailers including Best Buy Canada, Amazon Canada, Staples Canada, Costco Canada and more, with OEM availability varying. The laptops reach shelves in Canada on October 5.
