Your Older Apple TV 4K Gets Siri AI in Canada Too

You won’t need to buy the new Apple TV 4K to use Siri AI in Canada. Apple has confirmed the new assistant will also work on the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and later, meaning many existing owners will get the upgrade without buying new hardware.

The detail was buried in the fine print of Apple’s announcement for the new $429 Apple TV 4K, which also confirmed the updated Siri Remote with Find My will be sold separately. The rollout is part of Apple’s broader Siri AI expansion, which also includes the HomePod mini 2 and new HomeView smart display.

Older Apple TV 4K models will get Siri AI through the tvOS 27.2 beta. Canada is among eight launch countries, alongside the U.S., Australia, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. English will be the only supported language initially.

Now, here’s the detailed requirement. Apple says the home owner in the Home app must have an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software, with Siri AI enabled and set to a supported language. Personal requests, such as asking Siri to find a show a friend recommended, also require a paired Apple Intelligence device.

Older models won’t get the new hardware features, however. The three far-field microphones for hands-free Siri requests, A19 chip and four-speaker HomePod surround setup are exclusive to the new Apple TV 4K (4th generation).

As for the updated Siri Remote, it looks identical to the current model but adds Find My with Precision Finding and the ability to play a sound when it gets lost in the couch. Apple says the remote works with Apple TV HD and every Apple TV 4K model, and will be available separately. Canadian pricing for the remote alone hasn’t been announced.

There are some limitations. Apple says Find My works with the Siri Remote (2nd generation) and later, but Precision Finding requires the new 4th generation remote paired with an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air or iPhone 17 or later, excluding the iPhone 17e. Only the newest remote can play a sound.

The new Apple TV 4K and Siri Remote launch in Canada on November 13.

Will Siri AI keep your current Apple TV 4K around a while longer, or are you upgrading anyway?
