QuickBooks Can Now Use AI to Handle More of Your Bookkeeping in Canada

Intuit is adding more AI tools to QuickBooks in Canada, letting small business owners spend less time dealing with invoices, expenses and other bookkeeping tasks.

The company announced Wednesday that its Intuit Intelligence features are rolling out internationally, including Canada, through QuickBooks Online and its software for accountants.

One of the bigger changes is that users can tell QuickBooks what they want done in plain English, and the software will handle the steps. For example, it can create invoices from documents, send them to customers and follow up when payments are overdue, without someone having to do each step manually.

Business owners can also ask questions about their finances instead of digging through reports. QuickBooks looks at accounting records and bank transactions to show where money is going, how cash flow is looking and what finances might look like down the road. It’s similar to what Microsoft is doing with Copilot agents in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, where AI can actually complete tasks rather than just answer questions.

For accountants managing multiple clients, Intuit Accountant Suite adds tools to check financial information across accounts, set up new clients and handle messages without constantly switching between different accounts.

Intuit says early users of its AI tools have saved an average of 13 hours per month, although that’s based on the company’s own figures. There’s also the question of accuracy. Intuit admits its AI can make mistakes, so business owners and accountants still need to check the work before trusting the numbers. The company’s own 2026 AI Impact Report found that trust, rather than cost, is now the biggest concern holding businesses back from using more AI.

The new features are rolling out in beta in Canada, but not everyone will get them right away. Availability depends on the QuickBooks product and subscription, and Intuit hasn’t said exactly when all Canadian customers will have access. QuickBooks Online starts at $30 CAD per month for EasyStart before discounts, while some AI features may come with usage limits or extra fees.

More companies are also trying to get AI to do things for users instead of just chatting with them. Google’s Gemini can now call businesses for you, although Canadians are still waiting for that feature, while AWS has launched a desktop AI assistant that can work across documents and apps.
