Pokémon Unite Is Shutting Down in March 2027 on Nintendo Switch and Mobile

The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Unite will officially shut down next year, ending the free-to-play multiplayer game after nearly six years.
In a new statement, the company confirmed that Pokémon Unite will end service on March 23, 2027, at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT, affecting players on both Nintendo Switch and mobile. Unfortunately, it appears as though there are no plans to offer an online mode. However, the game will receive some support to preserve certain aspects.
Originally released on Nintendo Switch in July 2021 before arriving on iOS and Android in 2024, Pokémon Unite brought the popular franchise into the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre. Players compete in team-based matches using familiar Pokémon, with regular updates adding characters, cosmetics, and gameplay content.

Ahead of the shutdown, developers are preparing one final event to celebrate the game’s community. Beginning November 12, players will gain access to a Unite Coin Exchange, allowing them to obtain previously released items, including Unite licences, Holowear and Trainer outfits. The update will also introduce a new Library feature designed to preserve certain player achievements and in-game memories after the servers close.
Players who download the required Library data before March 23 will retain access to the feature after the shutdown. However, those who miss the deadline won’t be able to download it afterward. It’s worth noting that Library data generally cannot be transferred between devices.
Meanwhile, sales of Aeos gems and new UNITE Club memberships end October 27, with automatic membership renewals also being discontinued. Existing Aeos gems can still be spent until service ends.
Despite the announcement, the Pokémon Unite Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competitive tournament will proceed, with qualifiers beginning December 5. After service ends, players will no longer be able to log in or battle.
The shutdown marks the end of another Pokémon mobile experience, although the franchise continues expanding through titles such as Pokémon TCG Pocket.
