Wealthsimple Just Announced 12 Big Changes for Canadians
Wealthsimple announced a dozen new products and features today at its fourth showcase, Wealthsimple Presents: Something Good Is Going to Happen, live from Massey Hall in Toronto.
The company confirmed to iPhone in Canada over 700,000 Canadians registered for the livestream and thousands more gathered in Toronto, Vancouver, Montréal, and Calgary to find out how Wealthsimple is powering the future of spending, saving, and investing.
The headliner is Penny, an AI assistant that can move money and place trades, but only after you approve each move. There’s also instant transfers up to $100,000, a Pro trading suite, commission-free options on Canadian stocks and a rebuilt app.
The Toronto fintech recently hit a $13.8 billion CAD valuation, and it’s pushing deeper into AI, trading, payments and business banking.

Available Now
Wealthsimple Pay: Instant Transfers Up to $100,000
Available now, Wealthsimple Pay lets you send up to $100,000 instantly to other Wealthsimple clients. The company says that’s 33 times more than most big banks typically allow per e-Transfer.
Faster Mobile Trading
Orders are up to six times faster than before. A mobile trade now takes two steps instead of eight, and four seconds instead of 21.
Commission-Free Canadian Options
Wealthsimple says it’s the first brokerage in Canada to offer commission-free options on Canadian stocks, its most-requested trading feature. It’s available now.
Since $0 U.S. equity options launched last year, clients have placed $24 billion in options trades. This builds on its earlier index options and business cash tools.
Direct Indexing in Existing Accounts
You can now buy any of Wealthsimple’s four direct indexes in existing accounts, or convert an existing ETF in a few taps.
In a non-registered account, automated tax-loss harvesting can boost after-tax returns by up to 0.5 per cent a year. On a $200,000 portfolio, Wealthsimple estimates that’s nearly $20,000 more after 10 years and over $200,000 more after 30 years.
Coming Late November 2026
Wealthsimple Pro
Wealthsimple says it had the most self-directed trades in Canada in the first half of 2026, citing Investor Economics.
Wealthsimple Pro brings positions, watchlists and Level 2 market data together in one advanced platform, inside the same app you use to pay bills and save.
Perpetual Futures
Arriving late November, Wealthsimple says it will be the first and only brokerage to offer perpetual futures to retail traders in Canada. Perps let you use leverage to trade an asset’s price without owning it, with no expiry date and 24/7 market access.
CADD Stablecoin
Also due late November, CADD is a Canadian-dollar-backed stablecoin that Wealthsimple calls the first issued by a regulated financial institution.
- Designed to track the Canadian dollar
- Redeemable 1:1 for Canadian dollars
- 3.25 per cent annual reward on holdings at Wealthsimple
Coming by the End of 2026
Temporary Virtual Cards
Coming by the end of 2026 for all Wealthsimple prepaid and credit card holders, these are billed as a first for Canadian consumers.
- Hold up to five temporary cards at once, each with its own card details
- Set a custom expiry and spending limit for each
- Use them in the app or add them to a digital wallet
Newman-Bremang confirmed you’ll be able to add temporary virtual cards to Apple Wallet and use them with Apple Pay once the feature is live.
Coming in Early 2027
Wealthsimple Business Credit Card
Any business can apply for the new card in early 2027. It has no foreign-exchange fees and 1 per cent cashback on every purchase, joining the existing cash-back card lineup.
ChatGPT and Claude Connections
Wealthsimple is also building secure links to ChatGPT and Claude, coming in early 2027. You’ll choose how much access each tool gets, approve each connection during setup, and critical actions will get an extra check.
A Rebuilt App
A new native iOS and Android app arrives in early 2027 and launches five times faster.
- Customize your home screen around net worth, investment performance or spending
- Pin positions and buy or sell with a single swipe
- Turn on trade mode to keep pending orders in view
Penny: Launch Timing Not Yet Announced
Penny is built to understand your broader finances and turn goals into actions. Tell it to “max out my RRSP by March,” and it maps out the steps: checking institutions linked to Wealthsimple, setting up recurring investments and adapting if your situation changes.
Penny can help with:
- Sending e-Transfers and wires
- Spending insights and flagging duplicate credit card charges
- Managing expenses and paying invoices
- Buying and selling stocks, ETFs and other assets for self-directed investors
The key catch: Penny never moves money, places a trade or completes any action without your confirmation.
What If Your Phone Is Stolen?
In an interview with iPhone in Canada, Sam Newman-Bremang, Senior Director and Head of AI Products at Wealthsimple, said “the security of our clients’ money and information comes first in everything we build.”
He pointed to three protections:
- Passkeys, which he called “the strongest account login available to consumers today”
- Trusted Devices, which lets you name five devices you deem safe to transact on, with extra checks on unknown devices
- Trusted Places, which lets you approve up to five locations for sensitive transactions, with extra verification anywhere else
If an account is taken over, he said the team “does everything we can to help our clients regain control.”
What Penny Can See
Newman-Bremang said what Penny sees depends on what you ask, and the underlying AI model only gets the information relevant to that request. To work out your remaining TFSA room, for example, Penny would use your age and past contributions.
Penny “will never have access to highly sensitive information” such as your SIN or full account numbers. Wealthsimple says it follows Canadian privacy and data standards set by its regulators, Penny included.
- Penny is opt-in, and no data is sent to it unless you start the conversation.
- It can’t send information outside the Wealthsimple ecosystem.
- All data and conversation history stays on the platform.
No Siri or Apple Intelligence, for Now
“No. Penny is built into the Wealthsimple app and works within our own secure environment,” Newman-Bremang said when asked about Siri and Apple Intelligence. Wealthsimple has “nothing to share on Siri or Apple Intelligence today,” but may explore other secure connections over time.
Why It Matters
An Angus Reid survey of over 1,600 Canadians, commissioned by Wealthsimple, found:
- 39 per cent have less control over their money than a year ago (46 per cent of millennials)
- 29 per cent say life is too busy to stay on top of their money (41 per cent of millennials)
- 25 per cent feel overwhelmed with finances spread across institutions (38 per cent of Gen Z)
Wealthsimple serves more than 4 million Canadians. If you want to try it, click here to get a $25 bonus when you sign up.
Would you trust an AI assistant to draft your next e-Transfer or trade as long as you still have to approve it?
