If you’re using Installer to install 3rd party applications, one of the things you need to keep on top of is your list of Sources. Sometimes when one of the sources has changed, it will affect the way you install programs. This post is a response to a couple emails I’ve received lately (I apologize if I have not responded to your email just yet–I need to eat sometimes!).
Once problem that I have run into in the past is getting the error message from Installer that says “Package download failed: can’t find host!”. It took me a while to search and figure this one out, as I thought it would fix itself over time. Anyways, the problem is because of Ste Packaging’s updated URL. Since they changed it, Installer gives you an error as it can’t find the apps to install.
How to Fix “Package download failed: can’t find host!” in Installer
This worked for me…so it should work for you. However, there have been cases where after following this fix, it still does not work for some people. Make sure you type in the URL above exactly as shown–it should be case sensitive! If you’re going to try this, let me know if it works in the comments! Have a good weekend everybody!

It would be nice for someone to update the apps on installer, I keep getting> must have 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 for this to work blah blah blah.
I installed the new weather icon app and now I have NO weather arg! oh and I can’t get my customize app to work, it just sits there on the spicy chicken screen then goes back to the springboard. Also when I install themes for “Summerboard” most of them don’t even show up in it for me to select them. All this since 1.1.3 Maybe I will try out ZiPhone’s upgrade/jailbreak/unlock or maybe just go back to 1.1.2…..

Have u tried tapping the chicken? LOL that sounds funny 😛 But once u install customize and u go to load the app, the chicken screen shows and just start tapping the chicken. The app might still crash a few times but after 3 or 5 or more tries, the app should load and not have the problem anymore. I always had to do that when I restore my iPhone and install the customize app. One other way that might help fix ur problem is change the permissions of customize to 755 by SSH into ur iPhone. I did that once and customize loaded first try by still tapping the chicken 😉

ok I found a solution that worked for the customize, (ssh wouldnt work!!) :
I uninstalled it, then added http://touchrepo.com/repo.xml to Sources, then installed the modified version of Customize 1.21 from Installer.
(I have BSD Subsystem 2.1 installed. I used the Dev Team update to 1.1.3 and upgraded the baseband to 04.03.13_G.)
oh I also found a solution to the “weather icon fix” app….

I have a iPhone 1.1.4…
I had BSD installed and openSSh on 1.1.3 before upgrading but actually never tried to access my phone via ssh.
I upgraded at least 1 month ago to 1.1.4, installed summerboard, managed to customized my icons.
Now I would like to customize some application, for this purpose I need to access my iPhone through SSH. But when I use the iPhone terminal I get this:
/user/bin/login: file does not exist
/bin/login: file does not exist
/bin/ssh: file does not exist
I wanted to reinstall BSD but I keep on getting the Package failed to download, I reinstalled openSSH, refreshed the community sources, emptied the queue, turned off, on…
Please, I need a hint here!!!
yo, thanks man, also just like to point out htat you dont need to add this source. If you added shais and/or blaze ultimat to your sources then it will be in the sources cat. with nullriver. Right now it is takeing a long time to refresh my sources, but probably cuz i have 200+ alo just ot say this, on a friends touch this works on 1.1.3 also and on an iphone.

Using Summerboard I changed the skin for my iPhone. Now, I would like to change also the skin for my weather application, the sliders and so on. To do so, I have to change the png files of those applications. No other way but to access the phone via ssh to change those files.
But no matter what I try I cannot reinstall my BSD…Download package failed…
I’m a bit lazy and don’t want to do everything from scratch again on my phone…

i sorta wanna just make love to you right now!!! i had to play with it for a while. but it worked. what i did is deleted source, restarted, opened installer and installed it, but i had to keep clearing queue and messing with it. tanks BRO! 🙂

When I first tried this, I got “Refresh failed: Could not refresh sources.”
Just be patient, delete the http://rep.smxy.org/iphone-apps/ that was added.
Restart the iPhone and try the process again.
Eventually it will work, as it did for me.
