Sony Opens Registrations For a Chance to Preorder PlayStation 5 From its Website

Sony has announced that it will be selecting a small group of “existing” customers to preorder the upcoming PlayStation 5 console directly through the company. Registration for this chance has begun in the US.

Word comes byway of Polygon, who reported that users can head to the PlayStation website to sign up and register for their chance to be selected by Sony. The selection process appears to be limited to existing PlayStation customers as in order to register, one must sign up using their PlayStation Online ID.

On the Sony FAQ page, it is said that the selection is “based on previous interests and PlayStation activities,” tied through a customer’s PlayStation Online ID

Sony does warn that there will be a “limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order”. Preorder registrations will be taken on a first come first serve basis. Customers will recieve an email informing them if they have been selected, so registering for the preorder does not guarantee a console for a customer.

it is said that selected customers may preorder the following:

  • 1 PS5 Console or 1 PS5 Digital Edition
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers
  • 2 DualSense charging stations
  • 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets
  • 2 Media remotes
  • 2 HD Cameras

Registration is currently open for US-based customers. Sony has said that any preorders containing a non-US adress will be cancelled. However, customers outside the US can still be selected as long as the shipping adress is in the US.

The PlayStation 5 is said to release sometime this holiday season. Sony has still not officially released details on pricing for both the Playstation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, nor the console’s accessories. However, registration for preordering the new consoles may indicate that this information may be coming soon.
