Apple Adds New ‘Map Apps’ Featured Section To The App Store

Earlier today, Apple CEO Tim Cook issued an apology letter for bugs and errors in the new iOS 6 Maps app and now, the company has added a new Map Apps section to the App Store highlighting some alternatives to the native Maps app, thanks to @swotam for pointing it out!

While Tim Cook also mentioned some alternative map apps available to users in his apology letter, the new ‘Map Apps’ section in Canada lists only 7 alternatives compared to the US section. Notice we have MotionX GPS Drive, CoPilot GPS, Waze, Garmin, NAVIGON, and Sygic North America. Of course, when you purchase these apps Apple will make their 30% cut too.

Tim Cook said in his letter:

“While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map appsfrom the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app”.

The new App Store featured section can be accessed directly at this link.
