Official Reddit iPhone App Now Available for Download

Reddit has launched its highly anticipated official apps for iOS and Android users today. The app, built in-house by the company, will replace popular third party client Alien Blue, which it acquired in 2014. The Alien Blue app will soon be removed from the App Store, but still work for existing users.

Alex Le, Reddit’s Vice President of Consumer Product, told TechCrunch it was a “difficult” decision to shut down Alien Blue, and build their own app in-house instead, as it would be “faster, more modern and more usable,” for readers. Alien Blue did help in developing this new app though.

Reddit says the newly built app will allow new features to be delivered faster versus the Alien Blue app, with updates coming monthly or more. Over 50 percent of users browse Reddit on mobile, via the mobile web or third party clients.

If you’re an avid Reddit user, you’ll want to get this, as early adopters get a free three-month subscription to Reddit Gold (which enables power features), which normally costs $3.99 per month or $29.99 annually.
