UK Judge Orders Apple to Revise Website Notice

Apple has faced criticism over its decision to work around the ruling that forced the company to post a notice on its UK website acknowledging that Samsung products doesn’t infringe  Apple’s patents.

According to Bloomberg, the UK Court of Appeal in London ordered Apple to remove the statement citing a judge comparing the designs of the Apple and Samsung products within 24 hours and replace it with a new notice.

The simple fact is that Apple went too far with sarcasm: it included excerpts of the original “cool” ruling and cites German lawsuits about similar issues. With this post, Apple created the “impression that the UK court is out of step with other courts”, according to Henry Carr, Samsung’s lawyer.

While the judges thought Apple was acting fast, they were surprised to find out that the Cupertino company is actually set on making fun of the ruling, so their reaction is understandable:

“I’m at a loss that a company such as Apple would do this,” Judge Robin Jacob said today. “That is a plain breach of the order.”

Now, as a result of their move, Apple has to change the post on their website within 24 hours and has to add a three-sentence note on its homepage acknowledging the “incorrect statement” and a link to the new notice, UK judges said today to Bloomberg. Apple’s request to make the changes in 14 days was rejected.

What’s your view on Apple’s move and the reaction of judges?

This is all so silly. The people that are going to see that notice the most are already Apple users and Apple fans. Not potential Samsung/Android customers. It’s a weird ruling by the court that just feels like it’s punishment for ‘wasting the courts’ time.’ Outside of that, I’m not sure what purpose it serves. Then again, I’m as dumb as a post when it comes to legal matters so maybe there’s more to it than I’m capable of understanding.

Adam, you are not dumb per say, just ignorant and naive as a pre-schooler. Apple frivolously sued and they are now expected to apologize. Whether or not they act like adults is another question.
