Apple Launches Tap to Pay on iPhone in Malaysia

Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone is now rolling out to users in Malaysia. Starting today, independent store owners and sellers, as well as larger retailers in the region, can securely accept in-person contactless payments using an iPhone.

In a press release, Apple explains that people in Malaysia are gaining access to the expansive Tap to Pay on iPhone support. The feature enables iPhones to accept payments via Apple Pay alongside contactless credit and debit card payments. Other digital wallet payments are also enabled through this support.

Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone encrypts all transactions, meaning that the company has no information about what is purchased, nor does it have information on the person making the purchase.

For businesses, using Tap to Pay on iPhone requires no additional hardware or credit card machines. The feature leverages NFC technology to authenticate contactless payments. Tap to Pay on iPhone also supports PIN entry and accessibility options. This makes it easy for businesses to take advantage of it on an iPhone.

Starting today, ADAPTIS, Fiuu, HitPay, Stripe, and Zoho are the first payment platforms being supported in Malaysia. Additionally, Tap to Pay on iPhone will also be coming soon for checkout at Apple The Exchange TRX. Apple has also announced that contactless credit and debit card options, including American Express, JCB, Mastercard, MyDebit, UnionPay, and Visa, are supported.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is available on iPhone 11 or later running the latest version of iOS. The feature first launched in 2022 when it debuted in the US. Later, in 2024, Apple brought Tap to Pay on iPhone to Canada, supporting Adyen, Moneris, Stripe, and Square.
