Apple Confirms OS X Lion is Launching Tomorrow

Just now, during Apple’s 2011 Q3 Earnings Conference call, Senior VP and CFO Peter Oppenheimer confirmed OS X Lion will be in fact available tomorrow in the Mac App Store, on Wednesday July 20th. The price will be $29.99, but could sell slightly higher in Canada. Currently, Snow Leopard is selling for $29.00 CDN.

Apple promised Lion would be released in July during its 2011 WWDC keynote.

Not sure about after midnight. Apple likes mid-day launches.

But this is an app-store release.  When do apps traditionally appear in the app-store?

The price couldn’t be higher than $29.99 since it is already up on the apple Canada site for weeks that it will be out in July and would cost $29.99

Can someone please explain to me the main differences between Snow Leopard and Lion? I have a mac but I am kind of out of the loop.
I am also wondering about how time machine backups would transfer over to a new OS when it is downloaded right from the internet. Can someone please explain? Should/would it be effected?
