The Apple TV+ series ‘Defending Jacob’ has received a physical disc release. This will be the first piece of original content premiered on the streaming service that has migrated off the platform.

An Amazon listing for Defending Jacob, which stars Chris Evans, was first spotted by 9to5Mac. Available as both a Blu-ray or a DVD, all eight episodes of the mini-series can be purchased now.

Defending Jacob first premiered on Apple TV+ in April, 2020. It received quite a bit of critical and audience reception. The series is an adaptation of the William Landay novel of the same name. It sees Evans star in a crime drama tale alongside Michelle Dockery and Jaeden Martell. When his son Jacob (Martell) is charged with murder, Andy Barber (Evans), a district attorney, begins to see his life crumble in front of his very eyes.

While a physical release of the Apple TV+ series is likely welcomed by many, don’t expect it to become the norm. It appears as though the reasoning behind the migration off Apple TV+ is due to Paramount’s backing of the series. While Apple maintains the streaming rights of the mini-series, Paramount seems to have retained its right to release the series physically on disc.

However, ‘Long Way Up’, the Ewan McGregor motorcycle documentary series, is also receiving a physical release. The circumstances surrounding which Apple TV+ productions receive a physical release may still be up in the air. For those hobbyists who wish to collect physical pieces of media or those holding out on an Apple TV+ subscription, it may be worth keeping an eye on how this trend unfolds over time.
