Bell and Telus 5G Network Goes Live Unofficially in Ottawa

It appears Telus and Bell have turned on their 5G networks in Ottawa, Ontario, over the past week or so.

According to numerous iPhone in Canada readers, they have let us know they’re now seeing 5G cell signals in the nation’s capital from both wireless carriers, despite coverage maps indicating it’s not available yet.

In the screenshots below, you can see the Bell ‘5G’ signal icon in the iPhone status bar. A Speedtest.net test showed download speeds of 253 Mbps.

Another 5G test on Telus in the suburb east of Ottawa, in Gloucester, download speeds of 152 Mbps were seen on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. This particular customer said 5G was not enabled in downtown Ottawa yet, though.

Both wireless companies are likely testing 5G networks ahead of official launches. We’ve reached out to both for confirmation and will update this story accordingly.

Are you seeing the 5G network live in Ottawa from Telus and Bell?
