Last month, we told you Bell’s Virgin Mobile was set to launch a live TV streaming service called Virgin TV, which would include on-demand content without the need for a set top box or installation.

Virgin TV has gone live as of today, available in Ontario and Quebec, with pricing from $35/month for existing customers on an Internet plan of 15 Mbps or higher.

“We’re super excited to offer Members a new way to get all their favourite TV anywhere, anytime and at a great price, all with our easy to use Virgin TV app,” said Jennifer Posnikoff, Virgin’s Director of Marketing, in a press release. “With access to the top TV shows, the return of live major league sports, special events and all kinds of on-demand content, Virgin TV lets you watch like a boss at home or on the go.”

Virgin TV is an app-based live TV and on-demand service, with apps available for iOS, Android, Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and Google Chromecast, and the web. Viewers can watch two streams at once, while also pause and rewind live television.

Virgin Mobile says the Virgin TV core package has over 50 channels, including CTV Drama Channel, CP24, Food Network, HGTV, TLC and all the major Canadian and US networks.

Monthly add-ons can be seen below:

  • Crave + Movies + HBO: $20/month (current promo offers two months free)
  • Crave: $10/month
  • Crave + Super Écran: $20/month
  • Hollywood Suite: $5/month
  • Kids Suite: $3/month
  • Starz: $6/month
  • Movies and Series Pack: $25/month
  • South Asian Mega Combo: $10/month
  • Super Channel: $10/month

Virgin TV does not require a contract and the company says you can get Virgin unlimited internet and Virgin TV starting from $85 per month. The service offers “stunning picture quality with no pop-ups”. The fine print says you only get up to HD quality.

If you’re an existing Virgin Mobile internet customer and you absolutely must have live television still in 2020, this may be an option for you.
