Public Mobile and Chatr Offer Promo $45/6GB Plan for 3G Customers [u]

Telus prepaid brand Public Mobile has brought back their promo $45 plan with 6GB of 3G data, what the company is calling a “competitive response”. This plan is similarly being offered by Rogers prepaid brand chatr, while Bell’s Lucky Mobile most likely has this plan right now too (but their website is showing an error; we’ll update this shortly).

Just on the weekend, Public Mobile, chatr and Lucky Mobile all simultaneously offered $40/4.5GB 3G data plan offerings.

The plan offered today is $45 per month with 6GB of 3G data, which is slower compared to today’s LTE networks. But with Public Mobile, their 3G is actually just throttled LTE, which many customers are calling “LTE lite” as speeds and data response times are sometimes faster than traditional 3G (and you get LTE coverage).

The $45/6GB plan comes with unlimited Canada-wide talk and international text and is eligible for both new and existing customers. With autopay discounts, they drop to $43 per month.

These plans are being marketed as for “a limited time only”. If you have a kid who needs a cellphone plan, these 3G plans may work out better for you since they’re cheaper than traditional LTE plans from main carrier brands.

Public Mobile also offers new customers $10 credit if you sign up from a referral. Email tips @ iphoneincanada.ca if you require a referral.

Update: We erroneously posted the plan was $40, when in fact it is actually $45 for 6GB data. We regret the error.
