As the Canadian wireless carriers begin to rebrand their existing 3G networks to “4G”, Rogers, being the last carrier to do a rebranding, has now changed the marketing of its “3G HSPA+” network to “4G HSPA+”.
According to an internal Rogers posting, the company states that “the Rogers network is not changing. Only the terminology is changing”. In other words, the network will not get faster, despite the use of a network classification that implies faster speeds.
The changes are effective May 9, 2011.

So what are they going to call 4G when the real 4G is released? Do what the car companies do? Launch their 2012 model february of 2011?
Well the iPhone 4 is only an HSPA device (no +). So we are not effected by the 4G branding.

Although you may be right…..this has to be illegal in some way as it surely must fall under the category of “false advertising”. I’d like to see a class action lawsuit against Rogers for blatent misrepresentation!

Come on Rogers, I expect this bullshit from Telus and Bell, but not you. These BS companies calling HSPA 4G is lame. 4G is LTE IMO.
CRTC is in on the take from the big 3 phone companies. In title, they are here to regulate the prices and protect us. But, in actual reality, they take huge kick backs to protect the big three’s interests. Just remember the recent pay per use proposal: it was meant to rip us off and put huge amounts in the big three and CRTC’ deep pockets.
Instead of posting your company’s stand pat corporate explanation bullshit….why don’t you tell your employer that we Canadians want network speeds as advertised and get this implemented asap in ALL markets not just major Canadian cities!
How can we be affected by this ‘branding’??? No matter what hardware you have, this re-branding does not technically affect anybody because it’s the SAME network. The only people that will be affected by this will be uninformed customers who will make a buying decision based on this wording.
3G my A$$ let alone 4G they are sucking in 3G and we barely get full 3G in a big city in small. heck around the city there isn’t even service sometimes. in Kitchener/Waterloo ( half a million) there is new Low’s store in kitchener and around that area sometimes there is no service at all and if there is its pretty weak! less than Edge probably. its pretty sad knowing we pay in average a $100 a month for a cell package and we don’t even have proper service! what a rip off. I wonder what do they do with billions in profits that they make
