Rogers today announced its 5G network powered by Ericsson has expanded in Ontario, now available in Ajax, Burlington, Grimsby, Oakville, and Whitby, for a reach of now over 60 cities and towns.
The company says this expansion “will support additional 5G devices launching this fall on Rogers Infinite plans and unlimited business wireless plans”, while noting there are now over 2 million Canadians subscribed to Rogers Infinite plans, which have access to 5G networks.
In March 2021, Rogers Infinite plan customers will have to pay $15 per month to access 5G, but there’s no charge as of today. Bell and Telus will not be charging for 5G access.
Rogers is currently using 2.5 GHz, AWS and 600 MHz spectrum to provide 5G coverage, it says.
“5G is a gamechanger that will bring exciting experiences and opportunities to consumers and businesses across Ontario,” said Jorge Fernandes, Chief Technology and Information Officer, Rogers Communications, in an issued statement.
The expansion of 5G means Apple’s expected iPhone 12 models coming next month will have access to the next-generation Rogers network (if you’re on an Infinite plan).
Earlier this month, Rogers announced its 5G network had expanded to over 50 cities and towns.
