Rogers has launched a new migration plan today, targeting its own prepaid customers to switch over to a postpaid monthly plan.
According to documents seen by iPhone in Canada, Rogers is offering a $50 plan with 6GB of data, unlimited Canada-wide minutes and unlimited texts, available for Fido prepaid, Chatr and Rogers Pay As You Go customers, if they switch over to a monthly price plan. Data overage rates are charged at $10 per 100MB ($100/GB).
To be eligible for the plan, those switching over must be an existing customer for at least 30 days and must transfer or port-in a phone number. Employee accounts, IDV eligible accounts are not eligible for this plan. The plan also does not stack with retention discounts or other offers.
Rogers documentation says this is a bring your own phone migration offer and no term is required. The start date is September 25, 2018, and the end date is listed as “ongoing”.
The migration offer is reminiscent of Telus offering sweet deals to its prepaid Public Mobile customers to jump over to postpaid Koodo plans. When customers sign onto postpaid plans, they usually are higher in price, bumping up the industry’s metric of average monthly spend per user.
