Koodo Backtracks as Canada-Wide Calling Returns Without $5/month Charge

Last month, Telus-owned Koodo shook up its plans by turning province-wide minutes as the standard, and offering Canada-wide calling as an extra $5/month add-on.

Now, Koodo has reversed its decision as the company’s website now shows Canada-wide calling for all its in-market plans, as your emails have pointed out to us. Also back is one set of price plans for bring your own device and Tab plans.

Originally, Koodo said the new rate plan changes were made to “provide customers more choice, flexibility, and opportunities to save,” in a previous statement.

On Thursday, a Koodo spokesperson told iPhone in Canada the following statement regarding the reversal:

After thoughtful review, we have reintroduced unlimited Canada-wide calling and international messaging into all of Koodo’s in-market rate plans, in addition to having one set of price plans for Tab and BYOD. We are committed to developing products and services that provide customers with more choice, flexibility, and opportunities to save while maintaining simplicity, and we will continue to listen to customer feedback to deliver solutions that meet their needs.

When asked whether Public Mobile would also be reversing course and moving back to Canada-wide minutes as standard, the company said “as of today”, the changes previously made remain the same.

With rivals Fido and Virgin Mobile are offering unlimited Canada-wide minutes, it’s most likely a tough sell for new customers to pay $5/month for the option.
