TELUS 2013 Q2: 100K New Postpaid Subscribers, Data Revenue Rises to $601M

TELUS announced their 2013 Q2 results today, with revenue of $2.83 billion, an increase of 6.5% compared to the year ago quarter.
As for its wireless revenues, they increased 5.9% to $1.5 billion, driven by continued growth in data services and postpaid subscribers. Data revenue increased 17% to $601 million, equating to 43% of wireless network revenue in the quarter. Blended average revenue per user (ARPU) increased 1.4% to $61.12 to offset a 6.2% decline in voice ARPU.
TELUS added 100,000 postpaid subscribers, bringing its subscriber base to 7.7 million users, an increase of 3.5% compared to the year ago quarter. Users continue to adopt smartphones which has resulted in continued growth in data revenues. CEO Darren Entwistle was proud to announce the comapny’s “industry-leading low postpaid wireless churn rate of only 1.03 per cent per month,” a sign it is retaining customers better than its rivals.
