Telus announced on Wednesday the launch of SmartWear Security, which are essentially discreet wearable accessories that offer 24/7 monitoring and emergency support.

The wearables are from U.S. smart jewelry and accessory maker invisaWear, which makes devices discreet looking that offer 24/7 monitoring. These devices can connect to the Telus wireless network and the company’s SmartHome Security’s 24/7 monitoring team.

“It’s truly exciting to bring this level of personal security to Canadians. There are so many instances where as a mom and an aunt, I can see SmartWear bringing peace of mind to customers and their loved ones, from young adults walking alone on school campuses, real estate agents doing late showings, or even just taking the dog out at night,” said Zainul Mawji, Executive Vice-president and President, Home Solutions & Customer Excellence, in a statement.

“By simply double-clicking your wearable device, you can immediately alert selected contacts and share your geolocation. It’s empowering our customers with technology that immediately connects them to the support they need in an emergency,” said Mawji.

Device options include a necklace, bracelet, keychain or charms, priced from $99 to $139 CAD each.

When a SmartWear Security device is double-clicked, an alert is sent to your pre-selected five emergency contacts, showing your location, while the service can also connect you with a 24/7 monitoring team agent that will stay with you on the phone and text message.

“We’re excited to bring our devices to Canada and are proud to partner with a trusted organization like TELUS that understands the importance of security and putting customers first,” said Rajia Abdelaziz, CEO of invisaWear, in a statement. “With just the push of a button, customers can seek assistance and receive the right safety resources and help they need, empowering users to feel safe and connected.”

Activity tracking is available for up to 4 hours and users can alert their contacts once safe. But if no action is taken within that window, your location is shared with local law enforcement and your emergency contacts.

Telus says for every new subscription of its SmartWear Security service, it will donate a SmartWear device and a one-year subscription to its Mobility for Good program, up to 250 devices and plans.

SmartWear Security is managed through a mobile app and plans start from $12/month (for 1 user and up to 4 devices) when bundled with any Telus service. Non-Telus customers need to pay $15/month for the service.

TELUS SmartWear Security is available across Canada, except Quebec.
