WIND Mobile CEO Anthony Lacavera Steps Down as CEO, Will Remain Chairman

WIND Mobile has announced it has appointed Pietro Cordova as its new CEO, effective today. Former CEO Anthony Lacavera will remain as the company’s chairman and said the following in a statement:

“As an entrepreneur, my vision was to ignite change across the wireless landscape in Canada, bringing more competition, better prices and superior service to Canadians,” said Lacavera, “and that is exactly what we did. WIND Mobile is on a solid profitable growth track, and I am confident Pietro will bring the same strong leadership to the WIND CEO position that he has demonstrated successfully over the past two years as COO.”

Formerly the company’s chief operating office, Cordova said “WIND 2.0 is on solid ground” and also noted the upcoming “exciting phase in the life of WIND.”

Back in September, Lacavera’s investment company Globalive Capital acquired the Canadian stake of WIND Moble from VimpelCom, allowing the wireless entrant to take complete control of its destiny.

WIND Mobile has just under 800,000 wireless subscribers and Lacavera previously noted expansion plans are slated and underway for Victoria, Kelowna and Abbotsford in BC. It’ll be interesting to see what changes will happen at WIND with this leadership change, but one thing’s for certain Lacavera is most likely to still have his stamp on the company despite stepping down as CEO.
