WIND Mobile Service Launches in Downtown Loop of TTC Line 1 Subway Route [u]

WIND Mobile has announced this morning it has expanded its wireless service to the entire downtown loop of the TTC’s Line 1 subway route.

Customers can now make wireless calls and use data from Bloor-Yonge station, around the Line 1 downtown loop and all the way to Spadina, while Bay station on Line 2 is also operational, with coverage right now available at 15 total stations.

The company says expansion is currently underway to increase coverage, part of its exclusive one-year deal with the TTC to offer wireless talk, text and data, announced last month, on BAI Canada’s network.

BAI Canada won the contract to setup wireless infrastructure within TTC subway stations and WIND Mobile is the first carrier to sign on. Last month, WIND Mobile CEO Alek Krstajic said “Rogers, Bell and Telus could have come on some time ago, but they chose not to. Full stop.”
