Apple iPad 9 Said to Get Redesign Based on iPad Air 3: Report

Apple’s entry 10.2-inch iPad is said to undergo a redesign, taking on design cues from the previous iPad Air (3rd gen), reports Mac Otakara.

“According to a Chinese supplier, the next iPad (9th Generation) is likely to be based on the iPad Air (3rd Generation),” reads the report.

While the display will remain at 10.2-inches as it stands today with the iPad 8, the redesign will be thinner at 6.3mm and will weight slightly less, at 460 grams.

“Sources say it will continue to use Touch ID, Lightning ports, Full-Lamination Displays, Anti-reflective Coating, P3 Displays, True Tone Displays etc.,” explains Mac Otakara.

It’s unclear if Apple will integrate Touch ID into the power button, as was the case of this year’s iPad Air 4th-gen.

The upgraded iPad may also have a processor bump, as expected with generational upgrades.

Update: Corrected to mention the current iPad Air is gen-4 and not gen-3.
