I’ve received a lot of emails from you guys askin about what cases are the best for the iPhone 3G. Well, I’d love to tell ya but I can’t. Everybody has their own preferences when it comes to iPhone accessories. However, what I can do is review some cool stuff I’ve been receiving lately and let you guys decide for yourselves. So get ready to read some more reviews coming your way.
Our friends from Helium Digital (based in Canada) have sent me their latest iPhone 3G offerings. You might remember my review of their iPhone Boombuds from a while back. Today I’m going to review their new iPhone 3G Leatherback Pouch with belt clip! Let’s see what it’s all about!
Helium Digital iPhone 3G Leatherback Pouch Review
The case, upon taking it out of the box is basically no frills. The only thing inside is the iPhone 3G cutout. There is no cleaning cloth or screen protector as we’ve seen in the past from Case-Mate or Griffin. This is your typical leather iPhone case that will protect and do the job for a reasonable price.
Upon examining the case it is well put together. It consists of 100% premium Cowhide leather and includes a belt clip. I was able to fit my iPhone 3G easily into the case with a very snug fit. There is full access to all the iPhone controls. I feel that if I was to drop my iPhone inside this case it would be protected, except for a top corner that is exposed for the camera. The iPhone is kept secure via a button snap located on the top of the phone.
This case is not without some minor gripes though. I noticed that the case’s stitching was not exactly even along the front. Take a look at my gallery later to see what I mean. The case is curved and and angled down a bit. It could just be the sample that I received though.
The Helium Digital Leatherback Pouch ($19.99) is basically a case that’s 2 in 1. You get the pouch part, where you can easily remove your iPhone. But it’s also a case that gives you full access to all the controls and screen. If you’re wary of ordering from the US, I would consider buying from Helium Digital since they are based in Canada.

Pretty decent case. It looks like it has enough room to accommodate a first gen iPhone.
I’d like the headphones though, I lost my Apple headphones with the mic and I actually busted my speaker on my iPhone (I don’t know how but it happened shortly after tinkering with a volume hack from Installer) so I actually have to use speakerphone in public which is quite embarrassing or use normal headphones whilst having the phone to my face.
i was wondering what kind of carrying cases to get for my iphone! looks like this is a good choice! but i am thinking of getting the invisible shield.

I was thinking of getting the naked case because it protects the screen, but wonder about the effectiveness of the electrostatic protector – will it last?
picture this: cuttin grass at my grandparents with their ride on mower. Tunes are pumpin on my new iPhone. I approach a low hanging branch, duck in attempt to dodge the darm thing, next thing I know my headphones get caught up on this branch and are ripped out of my ears and left dangeling on the ground. I’m thinking to myself: thank god I didn’t run over them! So I pick em back up and place them back in my ears, and fire up the tunes again, left side works great, right side nothing! Brutal!
If you know an iPhone lover who’s deaf in on ear let me know, I’ve got a little somthin for em!

The headphones that came with my 3G iPhone are fine I guess except that they half fall out of my ears after about 30 seconds of use, and from then on sound crappy until I push them back in again.
I mix and master music for part of my living – I really ought to have a better pair of buds for my fancy new iPhone but alas, I have spent all my extra cash on a 3 year plan with Buggers… er, I mean Rogers. Winning these Boombuds would bring me one step closer to producing the best sounds the world has ever seen… er, I mean heard!
