Review: Mobile Phone Telescope by Brando

Today we have a product review of the “Mobile Phone Telescope” for iPhone 3G from Brando.

At first glance you may be wondering “What is a mobile phone telescope?”. Well, simply said, it is a magnifying glass for your iPhone 3G’s camera that pretty much acts as a natural zoom. However, while the idea has merit, I feel it was poorly executed.

Before I tested this out, I decided to head over the company website to see what they had to say about it. They had some unbelievably good ‘before and after’ pictures when using the Mobile Telescope. After checking those out, I then tested it myself. The advertisement is the telescope can give you 6 times zoom and during my tests I found this to be somewhat true. More on that in a bit.

The package comes with a crystal case to enclose your iPhone 3G, the telescope, and a neck strap. Once the crystal case is on, you can screw on the telescope and your done! However, this is where it really fails for me. First, the telescope is big and bulky. I can maybe imagine two (2) real uses for it but other than those, the telescope is just too big. Second, if you are looking at something far away and zooming in, at about 3x zoom it is good but anything after that becomes blurry and completely distorted. As I said though, the idea has merit and I can see how this product may work for some people, but it is definitely not for everyone.
