Apple Canada 2011 Back to School Promo Now Live

As indicated by rumours, Apple’s Back to School 2011 promo launched today and the deal includes a free $100 iTunes Gift Card with the purchase of any Mac. The promotion goes from June 16 to September 20, 2011 in Canada.

Here’s the deal:

When you buy a new qualifying Mac with Apple education pricing* from June 16, 2011, through September 20, 2011, you’ll get a $100 Back to School Card to use on the Mac App Store, the App Store, the iTunes Store, and the iBookstore.

Some see this new $100 gift card as a disappointment compared to the previous offerings of iPod rebates. This time around, it appears Apple is taking another avenue and trying very hard to push their new Mac App Store. Regardless, if you’re buying a Mac this could be the time to get a few extra savings.

This totally SUCKS!  In 2009 I got a free ipod touch and $100 cash off.  I would really like them to carry out the same deal this year but they didn’t.  Boo App Store, nobody cares if nobody owns the hardware.

They still are giving the $100-$200 off (depending on the computer) and they don’t have to give anything as a bonus.

$100 gift card is a big deal I think.  An iPod touch is just something else for you to spend money on, the $100 gift card is $100 worth of software/books/apps that you don’t have to buy.  When I was a student I would have loved that.  That’s an extra month’s food.

The promo is better than nothing. $30 of that gift card can go towards Lion when it’s released next month.

It would be interesting to see the final number of macs sold with this promo vs past promos with the iTouch. I guess $100 is better than nothing.

I doubt it will change much, as students that need a mac for school will buy one regardless of whether it comes with a free iPod or gift card.

Clearly a sign that things are not as rosy at Apple has the hype suggests. Mind you, the ‘free’ iPod was on a sliding scale of purchase and you were lucky to get a Shuffle at no additional cost to you.

That said, this ‘Educational Pricing’ lark is a scam – if they can offer the discount to students, they can offer it to the general public, too. Push for it and if it isn’t given, walk away. If you’re determined to get a Mac, visit the Apple Store’s own Refurb Department on a regular basis and pick up something at better than the 10% discount. You won’t get the ‘free’ $100 Gift Card, but everyone can get this discount.

if they are giving you education pricing for the computer along with that, that’s a steal.. because you actually get the $100 redeem on your itunes account after sending in your receipts to apple (maybe don’t mention that to that guy at Bestbuy).
Education pricing, $100 to the appstore, free upgrade to lion, and free MS office…that’s golden!
