Apple Launches New MobileMe: Redesigned, New Mail, Find My iPhone App

This morning, Apple launched their newly updated MobileMe interface. The service has received a major design overhaul, the largest of which was Mail.

The new Mail features are detailed by Apple to include:

– Widescreen and compact views.
– Rules to keep your email organized everywhere.
– Single-click archiving.
– Formatting toolbar.
– Faster performance.
– Increased security with SSL.
– Support for external email addresses.
– Improved junk mail filtering.

The Calendar, Address Book, iDisk, and Photo Gallery web apps all received new interfaces that are clean and make them much easier to use.

The web app toolbar has also been redesigned into a single button that activates an on-screen application switcher.

Alongside the interface changes, Apple further updated the Find My iPhone web app to feature a full page Google map view and also released a dedicated Find My iPhone app, which is available now in the App Store.

The Find My iPhone app, which is universal between iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, offers a method to locate a lost or stolen device. The app, which provides quicker access to the Find My iPhone functions, will allow users to track their device(s) using GPS, send remote messages to the device(s), and remotely lock or wipe their device(s). In other words, the same functions that the Find My iPhone web app has will be available in the official mobile app.

Users can check out the enhancements right away or become MobileMe members to use the service. MobileMe is available from Apple for $109 per year. Users can also receive a $30 discount, paying $79, if MobileMe is purchased with a Mac, iPhone, or iPad at an Apple Store.
