Facebook Videos Now Support iPhone & iPad
Good news for Facebook users! Today (or this past week at least), Facebook has began to transcode their videos to support the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
Prior to today, Facebook videos ran in Flash, making them not viewable with mobile Safari on devices such the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. While not all videos are fully converted yet, the majority of new and recent videos are supported on the Apple devices.
At first reports indicated that Facebook was converting the videos into HTML5, however further details indicate that the conversion is being made into .MP4 and not HTML5, which is still supported by mobile Safari. Now when iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad users visit Facebook, the site detects mobile Safari and provides a link to the available video.
Facebook now joins the ranks of YouTube, Vimeo, TED, New York Times, Time Magazine, and more in supporting mobile Safari through HTML5 and in the Facebook case, .MP4.
