HD Video Comparison: iPhone 4 vs HTC Evo

One of the features in the iPhone 4 is the new 5MP camera that can record high definition videos at 720p. With the upcoming iMovie app, iPhone 4 users will be able to edit and create movies right on their phone. There are other smartphones out there with HD video capabilities to compete with the iPhone 4, like the HTC Evo.

Below is a video comparison posted by Mike Niles, comparing the iPhone 4 versus the HTC Evo. Not sure how Mike was able to get video from an iPhone 4, but this is an interesting video nonetheless:

What device is the clear winner? The iPhone 4 video looks like the winner here, if this is actually from the next iPhone.

I really could not tell the difference. If that was the iPhone 4. If it was an iPhone 4 there would have been mention of it in the video and why not hold up both phones at the same time recording the same scene?

yeah, That would have been a way better way of comparing the quality of the two devices. On the other note, I liked the EVO's quality a bit better than the iphone one.

Honestly I don't think its an iPhone video. What I think is that this guy wants to drum up people to his YouTube page so people click on the ads in his video. Why not use the vid on the HTC to show the iPhone and vice versa.

Bunch of crap I say.

I find the video pretty useless considering there is nothing backing their claim that the clips are from an Evo/iPhone 4. They could have easily shown the iPhone 4 in the video taken by the Evo and the vice versa.

I'm also curious to know how he managed to get an iPhone 4 for this test, but even if it is legit, YouTube's compression makes it near-impossible to do any sort of quality analysis.

I think iPhoneinCanada.ca and Gary should call this out and say what it really is. A FAKE!!!!

you can still view it on YouTube's 720p setting but I agree it does still make rendering quality differences quite impossible.

Even at 720p, the compression is pretty significant.

Maybe this guy found the iPhone 4 in a bar to test this¿ The fact that apple won't post a 720P clip themselves leads me to believe the 720P quality isn't as good as the competition which is fine, I'd buy a flip cam if I wanted to take super portable video shooting seriously. I hope I'm absolutely wrong and they post a clip like Nokia did with the N8 which looks to have mind blowing 720P quality for a phone. Regardless I'm sure it will be more than adequate for the random times I'll need to shoot a video on my phone. No longer will we sober up and try to figure out with our friends which girl was the one with the face because phones previously had very poor video quality!
