That was the headline posted at Electronista yesterday! Although that may get some of you a bit excited, there are a few things I find hard to believe about this article. Seriously folks, with the upcoming WWDC coming in June, expect the rumors to get fast and furious leading up to the announcement!
According to the article, insider sources have stated that the iPhone will be released by Rogers in June. Now, this is something I can believe as Apple will be making some big announcements at their WWDC on June 9th. Steve Jobs could probably announce the iPhone is being released by a long list of worldwide mobile carriers, with Rogers representing Canada.
As for the part that says Canada will have the cheapest data plan for the iPhone, $7/month for unlimited data, I find this a little hard to believe. Currently, the Rogers $7/unlimited plan is limited to Rogers-branded cellphone for mobile browsing. However, some users have already been using this plan with their iPhones successfully with no extra charges. For those who don’t want to get stuck with a bill over a couple grand, it’s better to wait for some official Rogers data plans.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that something awesome will be announced by Rogers…how many more days till the WWDC?! Thanks to all of you guys who sent this in! =)

I’m one of those who have braved the $7/unlimited plan on my iPhone. For three bills now I’ve used thousands of dollars of $0.05/kb data — all for just $7.
But, as predicted by some on the forums, this looks like it is about to come to an abrupt end. Today I found my calls being re-directed to Rogers CSR. It was a very bazaar call — my bill isn’t available until tomorrow, so I couldn’t see it, and they said they couldn’t see it. Yet they did say that I had nearly $400 on my bill, which exceeded my credit limit and that it was due “mainly to data usage”.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any more information because “they couldn’t see the details of my bill”. After paying $80 over the phone — via credit card — I now have a working voice plan again, but will disable my data plan until I can see what is going on with my bill.
Anyway, just a warning shot: I’m guessing our non-Rogers phones might no longer enjoy the $7/unlimited plans 🙁
I’ll post more details in the forums as I learn more.
it will nto be 7$. i can guarantee that (or atleas tnot hte same plan). apple wont allow ted jerkoff to cripple the user eperience only allowing X apps to be used on teh data plan. Im guessing 75$ give or take for voice + data, which is about average.
also yea, theyre tracking now. tons of people are being billed for data usage on non-qualified phones. Even a friend who has a erricson (rogers branded) imei cloned to hsi iphone has been charged for data, since he wasnt using the rogers browser… heh

my guess is Electronista is just reading more into it than is really actually confirmed here. my current business voice + data plan on Rogers is a rip off, but I don’t want to change my contract before the iPhone finally comes out here.
meanwhile, I’m never one to take faith in what any Futureshop salesdroid says, but over here they’re saying it will be Sept for iPhone in Canada??

yea, ill believe it when i see it as for a release date (june, july ..) However, I can strongly see att releasing it on announcement day, to all the (new) carriers. hopefully it’s what will happen, but no one knows until it happens.
and yea, rogers is a complete rip off. having a monopoly must be great, heh
Who knows what Rogers will offer…let’s HOPE it will be something reasonable.
