Rogers To Release 15GB Data Plan, Postponed

In the beginning of June 2009, we made a few posts regarding the release of a new data plan from Rogers Wireless on June 16, 2009. The plan was $150 per month which gave you a total of 15GB of data per month. The details are posted below.rogers-iphone

Data Plan for Heavy Users (Effective June 16, 2009)

  • Price: $150 per month
  • Data included per month: 15GB
  • Time frame: Begins June 16, 2009
  • Overages: 1 cent per additional MB
  • Contract Term: Available on monthly or 1/2/3 year contract terms
  • Device support: All iPhones, Blackberries, HTC Devices, Smartphones, and Mobile Internet Sticks

Well, as of June 15, 2009, the day before the release, it seems that Rogers has postponed the release of this data plan “until further notice”. You can check out the posting from Rogers below:

Start Date: June 16, 2009
End Date: Ongoing
Regions: National
Reference # NDP 2009-06-48

**Postponed** $150/15 GB Data Plan

The launch of the $150/15 GB Data Plan, originally scheduled for June 16 and included in the Q2 Sales Guide, has been postponed until further notice.

It is unknown at this time for the reason of the delay, but I am curious if anyone was actually going to jump on this?

I am in India right now and have a rocket stick with Reliance Mobile. No contract, the stick cost me $100 and the monthly fee is about $40 for 20GB of data. 10 GB daytime and 10 GB night time.

I bet a lot more people picked up the 6GB/$30 than they expected. 6GB is a lot of Tethering Voip.

If you use jailbreak and skype, there is no need to tether.

I have had the 6GB limit since I did a hardware upgrade to get the iPhone last year. I have never even taken the time to look at my data usage monthly because I have no worries!!

15 GB must be a ridiculous amount of data!

For what its worth, I’m tethering with the 6gb plan and just got a text saying that I had used up 75% of my data. This roughly correlates with my counter. I have about 8 days left in my cycle, so I’m a bit ahead of usage. In a sense I only consider myself to have 5.5 gigs of data just to be sure I don’t go over by Fido (Roger’s) account.

When I saw this plan, I found it pretty stupid… doesn’t rogers cap your overage fees at $100 anyways? (up to a max of I believe 30GB?)

Colin, the maximum $100 charge is for up to 10GB, not 30GB.
