Effective August 5, 2009, Rogers will introduce their new Student Plans. Both new and existing customers may opt for these plans after August 5, 2009 and up to November 2, 2009.
Update: Effective August 18 2009, Rogers has added a My10 option to the $50 2009 Student Plan. More information here.

$35 Student Plan
The $35 Student Plan is identical to the normal Rogers $35 Mega Value Plan except that this one includes 6PM evenings for free.
iPhone 3G/3GS Price
Without an attached Data Plan, the iPhone 3G from Rogers will cost you $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB) under this plan. The iPhone 3GS will cost you $399 (16GB) and $499 (32GB) under this plan.
If you have an attached Data Plan ($40 iPhone Data Value Pack, $30 6GB Data Plan, $25 500MB Data Plan, etc), the iPhone 3G from Rogers will cost you $99 (8GB) and $149 (16GB) under this plan. The iPhone 3GS will cost you $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) under this plan.
$50 Student Plan
The $50 Student Plan is similar to the normal Rogers $45 Mega Value Voice & Data Plan except that this one includes 6PM evenings for free (but you can add the 6PM overlay for free), Canada-wide My5 instead of Local My5, 50 more daytime minutes, is $5 more but no additional options such as Double your Daytime Minutes or Unlimited Messages.
iPhone 3G/3GS Price
The iPhone 3G from Rogers will cost you $99 (8GB) and $149 (16GB) under this plan. The iPhone 3GS will cost you $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) under this plan.
As a comparison, here are the student plans from last year 2008 for BC/AB/ON/QC:

Both of the student plans from 2008 are infinitely better than the new ones in 2009, especially with the inclusion of My10 and the incoming minutes. Ultimately, it will be you that decides if these are worth it or not.
6PM Evenings Add-On
On a side note, a mostly unannounced feature that comes with the release of Rogers student plans is the separate free 6PM evenings overlay add-on that can be added to any existing plan that does not already have 6PM or earlier evenings.
This is a great feature add-on because it saves you $7 per month, but you do need to qualify as a student for the overlay by providing your school name (recognized High School or Post-Secondary Institution) and student ID number. However, it seems that Rogers has not released anything yet regarding this overlay add-on.
To qualify for the free 6PM overlay add-on, simply contact Rogers at 1-888-ROGERS1 and provide a student ID number and corresponding recognized High School/Post-Secondary Institution. As an existing customer, you must have an “in-market” plan which means that your plan has to be current. Usually this means within the last 12 months, but call Rogers to double check your plan status when you intend to add the 6PM.
As a new Rogers customer, you are covered because your plan is definitely new. When getting new Rogers service, simply request the overlay from your Rogers representative if you are signing up for a plan that is not one of the two new Student Plans.
My10 Feature
It is also worth noting that Rogers did not release the My10 feature (started at My5) last year in 2008 until TELUS Mobility released their My10 feature (hurry up TELUS!), as Rogers tends to imitate instead of innovate when it comes to wireless plans.
So we may still see the My10 feature show up later in August this year. But if the way Rogers has been changing their wireless plans for the worse in the last few months is any indication, I’m not holding my breath.

Having opted for the $45 student plan in 2008, I consider myself pretty lucky to be getting what I'm getting. However, it is tempting to switch to the new $50 atlantic region plan when I upgrade to the iPhone in August, as this gets me 1 GB data and lets me keep the canada-wide My5. Shitty that I'd have to go from 10 free numbers to 5, not to mention letting go of unlimited incoming minutes, but I think if I called them and haggled and argued and bitched and told them I was also adding the $20 iPhone visual voicemail pack they'd give me those 2 measly little options back. When I consider that if I just keep the plan I've got and add the (soon to be) $40 Data value pack, my bill will be just over $100/month, it makes a certain amount of sense to investigate this new option.
wow, i got a better deal than this $35 student plan in ontario.
When I first purchased my iphone 3G, (now 3GS), i got the my5-canada plan which is $35.
It includes 200 day time min + 50 bonus min + unlimited eve/wkend + my5-canada wide.

These student plans were going to be my second option if I was not able to get on with an EPP plan. But damn! These prices are still expensive! 🙁
Man you guys overpay for your plans… I stayed with my iPhone 3G and didn't upgrade to the 3GS but heres my plan regardless.

After you've been with Rogers for some time (3 years+) or your contract is up, you call and speak with Retentions and see if they can give you a better plan otherwise you will just cancel and go elsewhere.
Sometimes they will give you a better plan or sometimes they will call your bluff and you'll be forced to cancel or never have the chance again to get a retention plans.
Yes its a retention plan but people have succeeded on getting it after about 3 months with rogers.

I got my retentions plan after only one year with rogers, and managed to get all this for exactly 69.94 after taxes and fees. I think I got lucky and got through to just the right rep though… i've had family try for the same plan and they've always gotten a big no from retentions.

If you allready got a new 3 year plan with your 3GS back on launch day in July, would you be able to switch your plan to the new student one if you are a student? Or are you stuck with your current plan for three years during the contract? (Just wondering, maybe stupid question, noob here 😉 thanks guys!)
Yes you can. Simply call Rogers after August 5 and make the change.
