MuscleNerd Updates Current iOS 5.0.1 Downgrade / Jailbreak Status

Just a couple of days back, @pod2g of Chronic Dev Team gave a heads up warning to all those waiting for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 to stay put from iOS 5.0.1 update as Apple is likely to patch Charlie Miller‘s newly found security exploit in iOS which according to hackers, would lead to creation of a new and easier jailbreak solution. Today, another statement issued by Dev-Team leader @MusclNerd suggests the same, asking all jailbreakers and unlockers to avoid iOS 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading back to iOS 5.0 is found.

Here’s what he said:

@MuscleNerd: “Jailbreakers and unlockers should avoid today’s 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading to 5.0 is developed.”

Just to be clear, please noted that once you update your iPhone, iPod or iPad to iOS 5.0.1, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNGRADE back to iOS 5.0 since Apple has changed the signing process starting with iOS 5.0 meaning even if you do have your device’s SHSH signatures saved via Cydia or TinyUmbrella, you cannot use them to restore an older firmware on your device. So, if hackers come up with a new untethered iOS 5.0 jailbreak solution in the next few days, it might not work for you in case you’ve already updated to iOS 5.0.1.
