Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 Released, The Fastest iOS 5 Jailbreak For Mac & Windows

Just moments ago, Dev-Team pushed another update to Redsn0w jailbreak for iOS 5. The news came from @MuscleNerd as always via Twitter explaining that Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 for Windows and Mac is the fastest jailbreak solution for iOS 5. Total jailbreak time has been reduced to 80 seconds which was previously around 210 seconds. However, this will stretch the first time loading of Cydia after jailbreak, during which the stashing of applications will occur. An option in Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 preferences allows you  to choose whether you want redsn0w or Cydia to stash applications.

Via the official Dev-Team blog:

After some feedback on reddit, we’ve decided to make the initial jailbreak as quick as possible by no longer “stashing” the applications by default during the redsn0w run.  This reduces the time to actually perform the jailbreak from 210 seconds to 80 seconds (60 percent!).  However, you make up for much of that the first time you launch Cydia, which will then want to stash the applications.  You can choose whether you want redsn0w or Cydia to stash in the Preferences pane.

Same tethered crapola as usual.  But, it’s now much faster tethered crapola.

Yes. Tethered. Use Seas0npass. I have it running perfectly right now, with xbmc as well, which took more work, but it runs like a dream.

Go t o the fire core forums and look around.

I jail broke with the previous beta tool (iPhone 4, ios5) and after a day or two of working fine my iPhone started rebooting itself at random. at first I thought it was an isolated incident but then it started getting worse and worse. it became useless as I always needed to be by a computer to boot. any idea of this update solved the problem? I googled it and seems like I’m not the only one with the problem. also I’ve been jail broken since iOS 4.0.1. I never noticed how muh long the battery lasts on official firmware till now. at least 1/3 longer battery life for me. (and no I didn’t use many battery intensive Cydia apps)

The problem with jailbreaking now is that it has become more than just a “free” service. It is now a whole universe of its own with most of the good “jailbroken” apps being paid apps (sure you can find them for free but there in lies the awesome power of douche…however that’s a different topic all together). It makes no sense to upgrade you device/ios and revert to a “normal” phone or even a tethered jailbreakf you want the latest hardware/software on your phone and be jailbroken you will just have to be patient since the latest hardware cannot be jailbroken (yet) and the latest software is only half jailbroken (tethered). For jailbreakers this sucks since your stuck in this limbo of waiting for the latest untethered jailbreak yet you want (or at least I want) the latest and greatest phone/ios. I might sound like i want my cake and wat it too but I appreciate and have donated to people like geohot and the dev team for their amazing work in the jailbreak community, that being said i would gladly pay money for the latest untethered jailbreak for the iphone 4s,  i just hate waiting for it.

Jailbroke my iphone4, it’s factory unlocked…..

First time I was jail breaking any of my iDevices!

everything went smoothly!!! when all was done Cydia icon was all white and when clicked it just blinked and nothing happened !! 🙁

Too bad I’m scarily busy and swamped with work and could not read through numerous articles and go through videos to get it solved !!!!

I thought it would be a straight shot

You need to go to extra, add the ipsw, then just boot tethered, there is no regular fully tethered jailbreak for it yet. you will need to do this every time you restart the phone, or the phone dies.

You know…instead of wasting time making an already released jailbreak faster, why not just concentrate on the 4S? They should be catering to the people who like me upgrade their phones every year. I understand older iPhone models need a jailbreak too but they already freaking had one!!! I usually donate $200 a year to them but I think I’m def cutting it in half this year…

first of all, rushing is pointless. it just annoys the developers and distracts them with drama rather than the real work that needs to be done which is jailbreak our devices.

Some people just dont realize the significance of these exploits these developers find and make to get our phones working. ever heard of “a needle in a haystack” will the haystack has ASLR. Adress space layout randomization.

So if you guys want to sit and whine about how your devices are so shitty because theyre not jailbroken then try and do it Yourself! Or wait, and be thankful that we even have people like that that are willing to spend endless hours helping us out for FREE when they could very well be making millions of theyre jailbreaks.

Um… why? Because you have money to waste? I don’t see why the newest model is such a priority. There are more 3GSes and 4s in the wild than 4Ses, and it will stay that way for a while.
