App Store Guidelines Page Accidentally Prints ‘macOS’ Instead of OS X

Are we set to see the rebranding of OS X to ‘macOS’ next week at WWDC? Apparently documentation from Apple itself would hint the change is coming.

Yesterday, when Apple announced its forthcoming changes to the App Store, their guidelines page quickly referred to the new name in the sentence “The ability to earn 85% takes effect in June 2016 for subscription renewals occurring after that date. iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS apps are eligible.”

Shortly after people noticed “macOS”, Apple quickly reverted the page back to reference OS X.

Similar references have been made to “MacOS” (note the uppercase ‘M’) back in April and in March of this year, when OS X 10.11.4 code revealed “macOS”.

Last year, when Apple SVP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller made a surprise guest appearance on John Gruber’s live podcast at WWDC, the executive already had hinted a change was in the works to align their operating system names.

We’ll find out on Monday if these references to “macOS” come true or not, but most signs point to yes.
