Apple Launches 15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program

15 inch macbook pro battery recall program

Apple this morning issued an “Important notice for batteries in certain MacBook Pro units,” with a new voluntary recall and replacement program for 15-inch models.

The program addresses older 15-inch MacBook Pro models sold between September 2015 and February 2017, as the “battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.”

Apple says you can determine your model by going to the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen, and if it shows “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015),” enter your Mac’s serial number at this page.

“If your MacBook Pro is eligible, please stop using it and follow the instructions below to have your battery replaced,” explains Apple.

Customers can have their MacBook Pro battery replaced for free at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store.
