Apple Unveils 16-inch MacBook Pro in Canada, Pricing from $2,999
As expected, Apple has unveiled a new 16-inch MacBook Pro, what it is calling “the world’s best pro notebook,” targeting “developers, photographers, filmmakers, scientists, music producers and anyone who relies on a Mac to create their life’s best work.”
The new notebook has a larger 16-inch P3 wide colour gamut Retina display (up to 500 nits) at 3072×1920 resolution (nearly 6 million pixels; 226 ppi), with the newest 8-core processors from Intel, latest AMD Radeon Pro 5000M series graphics with up to 8GB of VRAM, plus a new “advanced thermal design”. It can support up to 64GB RAM and up to 8 terabytes of storage for the first time, the most in a notebook says Apple.
Apple says the new thermal design results in a “28 percent increase in airflow, while the heat sink is 35 percent larger, enabling significantly more heat dissipation than before.” The 16-inch MacBook Pro can “sustain up to 12 more watts during intensive workloads than the previous design.”
As for the new Magic Keyboard, it comes with a “redesigned scissor mechanism and 1mm travel for a more satisfying key feel,” in what Apple calls the “best typing experience ever in a Mac notebook.”
Apple says there is a better six-speaker sound system, plus an “upgraded high-performance mic array delivers a 40 percent reduction in hiss and an improved signal-to-noise ratio that rivals that of popular professional-grade digital microphones.”
The new 16-inch MacBook Pro has a larger 100 Wh battery (up to 11 hours watching Apple TV+ or web browsing; previously 10 hours), to go with the Touch Bar, Touch ID and Force Touch trackpad, plus the company’s T2 Security Chip. There are four USB-C ports, with two on each side and a headphone jack.
“Our pro customers tell us they want their next MacBook Pro to have a larger display, blazing-fast performance, the biggest battery possible, the best notebook keyboard ever, awesome speakers and massive amounts of storage, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro delivers all of that and more,” said Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac and iPad Product Marketing, in a statement. “With its brilliant 16-inch Retina display, 8-core processors, next-gen pro graphics, even better thermal design, new Magic Keyboard, six-speaker sound system, 100Wh battery, up to 8TB of storage and 64GB of fast memory, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is the world’s best pro notebook.”
The new 16-inch MacBook Pro is available on Apple.ca starting at $2,999 CAD in Canada (staying the same as its previous 15-inch predecessor), available for delivery by November 19-21. A maxed-out 16-inch MacBook Pro costs a whopping $7,459 CAD.
