Apple Seeks Customer Feedback on MacBook Pro Headphone Jack

Apple is likely considering removing the headphone jack from the MacBook Pro, as one of the surveys sent out to customers asks whether they use the headphone port on MacBook Pro with Retina display, MacRumors reports.

Ports hero

Users have been reporting on Twitter that Apple has asked similar questions about the headphone jack, suggesting that the company is playing with the idea of removing the socket. Since this year’s MacBook Pro design is already complete, if you are using the headphone jack, you don’t need to worry.

However, removal may happen with future MacBook Pro models, since Apple has already taken that step with the iPhone 7 and is likely to extend it to other products as well.

Alongside the headphone jack, Apple is also asking users about battery life and other ports, such as the SD card slot, as well as photo uploading habits, all in relation to the MacBook Pro with Retina display.

The next-generation MacBook Pro, which Apple is expected to unveil this fall, is rumoured to include four USB-C ports and a headphone jack, but the presence of other ports is unlikely. The 2016 MacBook Pro is also rumoured to have undergone a redesign and acquired an OLED touch panel.

So much for the “saving space” excuse.

Get rid of it. SD port could go too, although I like my MiniDrive by Nifty. Remove the MagSafe and existing USB ports while you’re at it and just have 2 USB-C ports, a lightning port, and a thunderbolt port.

I could see that being fine with Macbook air and Macbook… Don’t get why they’d do it to the Pro models (which have more ports for a reason, thats what makes them pro).

As a videographer, all this death of headphone jack is like nails on a chalkboard to me… Everything uses it, and the ENTIRE industry is not going to drop it.

Why ask people? Folks never want things to change. I admire Apple for having the guts to make such decisions other company never would dared to make.

Replace it with a Lightning port and include an analog adaptor for 5 years..

Actually ideally migrate over to the mini USB-C port for the iPhone instead of the Lightning or use the classic ? magic to make a lighting USB-C combo port… (pipedream?)
