Amazon Canada has announced the new Fire HD 8 tablet is now available for pre-order in Canada, priced at $99.99, with a launch set for October 4, 2018.
The Fire HD 8 has an 8-inch widescreen display with 1280 x 800 HD resolution, powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz processor and 1.5GB of RAM. Battery life is up to 10 hours, while storage options are at 16GB or 32GB, with a microSD slot available to now support up to 400GB of expandable storage. You can also now save apps to the microSD card, which was unavailable on the 2017 model.
“We believe customers should get more out of their tablets, and not be expected to pay a premium for an incredible entertainment experience,” said Kevin Keith, Vice President, Amazon Devices, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada. “The Fire HD 8 features a beautiful HD display, a fast quad-core processor, all-day battery life, and more expandable storage for downloading books, movies, games, TV shows, and apps to enjoy—and still only $99.99.”
The Fire HD 8 also includes a 720p HD front-facing camera and new improved 2MP rear shooter, while dual speakers are optimized for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus.
According to Amazon, this new Fire HD 8 is more durable than Apple’s iPad mini 4. The company states, “as measured in tumble tests, Fire HD 8 is 2x as durable as the iPad mini 4.”
At the starting price of $99.99, the Fire HD 8 pegs itself as a cheaper alternative to an iPad for streaming media consumption, social media, and light gaming, which makes it ideal for the kids.
