Apple has registered five new iPad models running iPadOS 13 in the Eurasian Economic Commission database, setting the stage for new iPads later this year.
Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) certification documents (via MySmartPrice) show five new listings for Apple tablets running iPadOS 13, hinting at what will most likely either be new high-end iPad Pros or entry-level iPads scheduled for fall debuts.
One of the filings covers three models — A2068, A2198, and A2230 — while the other covers models A2197 and A2228. All five of the devices are listed as running “iPadOS software version 13,” which was introduced in beta form at WWDC last month and will not be shipping on devices until September or October of this year.
“According to South Korea’s UDN, Apple is rumored to be working on a 10.5-inch iPad with a brand new design,” reads the report. “This said model is believed to go in production later this month and its launch might take place ahead of this year’s holiday season. If this is the case, then the models we spotted might be one of those. We recently read about a new rumor which claims that Apple is working on a foldable iPad with 5G connectivity. This rumored foldable 5G iPad is supposed to launch next year, though.”
EEC filings are legally required for devices to be sold with encryption-related technology in Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. While the filings don’t provide any device specifications, they have historically been indicators of upcoming changes in Apple‘s various product lineups.
These model numbers could play out much like the MacBooks Apple announced just yesterday. The new laptops were registered in the EEC months ago before they were unveiled this summer. We could see a similar scenario with the iPad models, which Apple could announce during its September event.
