Apple’s 2019 16-Inch MacBook Pro to Feature Smaller Bezels, Will Launch in September: DigiTimes

Apple is planning a big design change in this fall’s MacBook Pro, according to a new report. And it could launch as soon as September.

According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple has tapped Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer to make the new 16-inch notebook. It will retain a similar footprint to the current 15-inch MacBook Pro thanks to significantly reduced bezels. Not much will change in terms of the materials Apple uses for its computers including aluminum as the computer won’t increase in size.

Digitimes’ “unnamed sources” in the supply chain say the new 16-inch MacBook Pro will use an LCD screen manufactured by LG Display and will sport a resolution of 3,072 x 1,920.

Reports suggest Apple will also include a new “scissor switch” mechanism keyboard, as the company begins to transition away from its problem-prone butterfly mechanism keyboard design.

The report says the price of the new laptop will be around $3,200 USD. While that price is higher than previously reported, it isn’t clear whether the price is a base price or for a higher configuration.

It is possible that this new MacBook may be introduced at Apple’s iPhone event or it could be announced at a different time in September. Apple is also rumoured to be launching new iPads this year, these are expected sometime in October.
