Apple’s TV App on iOS and tvOS Now Supports Live Sports, News in Canada

Apple finally launched their TV iOS app in Canada last September, after originally being an exclusive app for users in the United States. Now, another U.S.-only feature has made its way to Canada in the TV iOS app: live sports and news.

Today’s launch means the TV iOS app now shows live news and sports apps, making it easier for Canadians to start watching live content, reports MobileSyrup.

Currently, live TV apps featured include CBC, DAZN, Sportsnet, TSN GO and RDS GO. Viewers are probably wondering why pro sports league apps such as Rogers NHL Live and MLB TV are absent, but according to Apple, this may change at a later date.

What’s cool about how the TV app is when it comes to sports, thumbnails will provide a quick snapshot of what teams are playing, then once live games start, scores will be previewed, even if you’re not subscribed to the service. For example, check out the screenshot below, which shows you the score of a live MLB game from Sportsnet:

According to Apple, this feature gives users a better sense of what live sports content is available in the TV app, which is installed by default on iOS 11 and tvOS.

Earlier this week, Apple announced tvOS 12 for Apple TV 4 and Apple TV 4K, which brings Dolby Atmos for the latter, while also introducing new aerial screensavers and password AutoFill.
